Pine boards - tangential movement - 5/4 x 10 inches wide

#1

I'm starting a new bench for the front porch. That means Toronto, Ontario, Canada  cold / heat / humidity 12 months of the year.

Any thoughts / opinions / knowledge how much 10 inch-wide boards 5/4 thick would move?

Thanks.

Howard

My 5¼" deck boards move about 1/8" ~ 3/16" over the seasons, so I'm guessing your ten inch boards will be about double that.

I use the shrinkulator calculator for this sort of thing. Besides your wood species and dimensions, all you need to add is the highest and lowest average relative humidity for your area.

It also matters if the wood is quarter sawn, rift, sawn or plane sawn.  With plane sawn timber, you might get cupping.
