My new Windows 11 PC won't load the FWW archive disc I bought in 2015 - it worked fine all these years on my previous computer running Windows 10.
Does anybody know of a fix for this?
FWW offered me an upgrade price for 1975 to 2023 on a USB but I'm not so sure about this....
Thanks.
Howard

Re: problems - FWW archive on new Windows 11 computer
#2Howard, I would accept the USB. Assuming that it is compatible, copy the contents to your hard drive and access he archive that way.
Many years ago - I think my archive goes to about 2015 - I extracted the magazines at PDFs, and copied them to Books on m iPad. They show up as tiny covers, which may not be searchable, per se, but ossicle to fine and choose. This is great for reading material on a plane, or in bed, where my wife objects to the sound of turning pages!

#3Thanks Derek - I think I'll go ahead and buy the USB.
As for your "wife objects to the sound of turning pages" my wife objects to keeping the light on to read, so having everything on the phone is a great idea!

#4Two things you can try. Run it as "Administer". If that works, you'll have to remember to always run it as "administrator. The second option is run the Win 11 compatibility trouble shooter. That will ask you what version it worked on and Win 11 will simulate that version to run your program in the future. You'll need to google Win 11 compatibility trouble shooter to get the step by step process. I have several old programs that I run in the compatibility mode because updates aren't available.

Edited #5Thanks Dale. Might do that. Or might let my arm be twisted for the USB update....

Thanks for your insights here, everybody. Just decided to bite the bullet and pay for the USB. Looking forward to these materials.

Hi, What were they asking for the update USB? Also, why did they say there was a problem. I generally buy the annual update and now have several years of unopened disks

Curious why they still do this instead of putting it online behind a paywall that would work on any device and be forever available. If they charge for this, it would be more profitable as it would eliminate CD and USB costs and that of shipping them.
Isn't it interesting that CDs that were once all the rage have went the way of the dinosaurs? So will USBs once they start putting chips in our brains.

Hi,
They do have it online, both as an annual subscription where you have access to several of their items and to read the magazines. I'm not sure if the magazine access is just your current subscription or all back issues also.

Forever or until somebody stops paying for the server space to host the content. Or the current host through a combination of poor procedures and bad luck loses the files and doesn't have a restorable backup.
