Does anyone use this finish? What do you thin of it? I see "original" and "Danish". Wish one is used for what?

Re: Tried an True finish
Edited #2T&T is a group of long oil finishes based on linseed oil. Easy to use, they produce a softer film, tho I think they make a version with a higher resin content, that will do well on light-duty treenware. The only negative is that linseed oil will darken with age. For that reason I prefer Waterlox finishes that are based on tung oil.
I seem to remember they make an issue of "food safe" which is a strawman since all finishes are food safe once cured. Most any film finish on heavy-use treen will fail, but long oil products are easy to refresh with reapplication.

#3Thanks for you input. I got some Tried and True Danish and some Waterlox today, at your suggestion and will try them out on some pecan that didn't do well with my usual simple application of linseed oil and shellac. I'll report back after I try it out. The pecan with my usual just looked dead to me.

#4Suggestions
1. apply the oil
2. give a full 24 hours to "dry" (not "cure")
3. sand lightly with 220 and vacuum off
4. apply a light coat of shellac, wait over night
5. rub with gray synthetic wool and vacuum well
6. apply a full wet coat of shellac
Option: for greater depth of gloss, wait 48-36 hours after the last coat of shellac then apply wet coat of a good waterborne clear gloss.
You should see a difference. Spray application gives a more even film, but you can hand-apply all of this.
