down sizing
I tried having a garage sale yesterday of some of my woodworking stuff. It was a failure. I'm really wondering now, how can one downsize and sell stuff at any price. What do you think the best aproaches are?

Selling online will expose the items to more potential buyers. For large items where shipping would be high, Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are probably the best options as they limit buyer searches to a particular geographic location.
For items that can be shipped, eBay is still #1.
There is also the WoodCentral Classified Forum and Marketplace. The number of potential buyers will be much smaller, but those who do view the ads will be those interested in such items.
If you are not comfortable or interested in advertising online, I have been considering adding this as a service on this site, where for perhaps on a commission basis someone savvy with such things would handle getting items listed online.
I've also researched what happens to all this stuff after someone dies, and have read many stories online of widows offering everything for free to whoever can remove it. Stories of $7000 lathes being offered free to whoever can get it out of the basement. Of boxes of thousands of dollars of planes and other tools being boxed up and given to Goodwill. Or taken to the dump or being sold for scrap metal. That sort of thing.
Is anyone aware of any existing businesses that provide such services online, as opposed to auction houses and such that deal with estate sales on a local basis?

#3I have tried garage sale, Facebook market place, kijiji (Canadian version of Craigslist) and word of mouth.
The relatively succesful have been Facebook and word of mouth.
Facebook allows me to check the potential buyers profile, making it easier to weed out scammers and tire kickers.
With the exception of word of mouth, all of my transactions are done at the parking lot at my local police station..
Garage sales and kijiji attract mostly scammers, thieves and potential thieves casing the neighborhood.
