Travels

Now I'm in Edinburgh having taken a long coach/train ride from Cullen where I was resting up for a couple of days after my vari.ous walks. If you are looking for a picturesque friendly laid-back place Cullen would be hard to beat. Besides, that is where Cullen Skink (look it up) originated. After getting off the train at Waverly Station I got to my cheap tourist hotel, the Old Waverly Hotel, which apparently peaked sometime around the Great War. Next thing was to walk a bit to The "Oxford" Bar where I had a pint in the back room. For most of you that probably means nothing but if you are an Ian Rankin fan your heart probably gave a little extra beat. Yeah, it is real but I'd be hard pressed to describe it properly. This is not your socializing bring the kids and dog kind of place -- it is there for drinking. Tomorrow I'll walk up Fleshmarket Close -- another Rankin reference. And no, I don't have the cap with me because I forgot it in the closet so it isn't in the picture. One more day in Edinburgh and then it is off home where the grass is probably knee high by now and the squirrels and birds are probably really pissed off about not getting their daily feed.

Re: Travels

I'll be in the Philippines later this year helping with this, wearing my new WoodCentral hat Ellis sent me and  trying to video it (details at the 13:50 mark). Bamboo is a wood, right? Should be interesting seeing how they use it to contruct it into a house using the most basic of tools.

Re: Travels

"Bamboo is a wood, right?" Well, more of a grass actually but the uses it is put to are amazing. The first time I saw multi-story scaffolding made of nothing but bamboo and rope I was blown away.
