Played clarinet in a Canadian Legion sponsored concert band. We did march but didn't really consider ourselves a real marching band although we could get from point A to point B. Have since stopped that activity but play sax in a community concert band and was in a 9 member sax group that played at retirement homes and charity events but COVID and members old-age caused its demise. Never YouTubed and not likely too do so.

Not a musician but it lured me into the finer points of wood craft. No. One Son needed a new--big boy--cello so we went to the maker, who also repaired strung instruments. I realized there was a world beyond hammers and circular saws and fell in love.

And what a delicate world it must be. When I hear about those instruments being disassembled for internal repairs it makes me nervous just thinking about it. I saw a clip on TV about a couple of hundred year old double-bass worth a lot of money being taken apart and I couldn't believe it. Making and repairing these finely crafted pieces certainly would require a more careful touch than I normally provide!

Durability

They are pretty tough. For reference watch how they are played. Brutally. Even the old masters have screw and nail holding the neck and body together. NOS had parts reconnected on his cello after some rough-housing. But improper re-stringing can send the thing to a shop for bridge pin correction.

I've been playing forever but have finally gotten tired of the same old tunes, especially during the pandemic when I stopped playing with people.  In the last few years I've mad a few acoustic and i participate in the OLF official luthiers forum
