Adding Color to Bowls that is Food Safe

Is it possible to add color to turned bowls using food derived colors(blueberries, beets, etc.)? I didn't think that aniline dyes would be food safe? If it is possible, do the colors hold up after repeated use and washing, given that the colors will likely fade? If it's not possible, what would be a food safe way to add color to bowls? Thanks for your help.

Sure it's possible. I did bowls with beet juice and turmeric. It's not an intense color, but nice to look at.

I,k paint is considered to be food safe also.  I’ve used it on many salad bowls.

Absolutely don't use aniline dyes, they are not lightfast, and....

.... highly subject to fading with any washing procedure.

Black berry juice was used in colonial times to stain light colored wood.
