John Jordan tribute

This vessel was turned as a tribute to John Jordan. It is carob. About 7"D x 4"H. Tung oil finish.

Back story: A group of us did a tribute on-line zoom session a week ago and we auctioned off our vessels to raise funds as a memorial to John. We donated the proceeds to Vicki Jordan.

I turned this vessel on the Stubby lathe that I bought from John in 2000. I used a piece of carob he gave me in 2001. I used my JJ gouge and JJ 1/2" and 3/8" hollowers. Before he was selling it, I had made a JJ-style shear scraper and I used it too.

Re: John Jordan tribute

This was a Vendor Showcase event.  John was a member of our group that puts on free demonstrations a few times a year.  Other members are Lyle Jamieson, Cindy Drozda, Tod Raines Woodturning tool store, Steve Worchester Turning Wood, Joe Fleming.  We pick a charity to donate the auction proceeds from what we create from each event. The Vendor Showcase has become a brand with a large numbers of followers. We will have a live feed from AAW Symposium in June, hope to see you there.

Here's the piece I created that was auctioned off at the last Vendor Showcase for Vicki Jordan and her charity of choice.

Beautiful work, Lyle, and deep respect for those of you involved with this. What wood is that?

Re: John Jordan tribute

Thanks Ivan, The Vendor Showcase Group has attracted a huge following.  We have 10s of thousands on our notifications list. JJ did not use burls much so I wanted to do a Jordon shape with a cherry burl.
