V Belt Question
So I am doing my motor conversion with a treadmill motor .My existing belt,L475 48x750, is 30+ years old. Do these get hard over time? Should I consider a different type of belt. Maybe the notched type V belt?

When I put a treadmill motor own my old delta I used a serpentine belt, it matched the pulley on the treadmill. I made a wooden pulley out of locust for the headstock

If it is a standard 4L V- Belt you could use power twist link belt.� They are a little more expensive; but, you have the advantage that if you have a lathe that has the pulley between the headstock bearing and the rear bearing. Will not need to dis-assemble your lathe to install it.� Not sure if this type of belt is rated to run forward and reverse.

If you have the opportunity, I'd replace it. The additives that they use to keep the bely pliable dissipate over use and time. An alternative to making a pulley to match would be to try McMaster Carr to see if they have a pulley that is close to the one you want. The problem with a wooden pulley is number one wear and two becoming out of shape with changes in humidity.
