Tool Rest Suggestion?

I have an older Rockwell lathe. The tool rest post is 1". Would  like to upgrade to a rest with the hardened rod across the top.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Tool Rest Suggestion?

Check out the Robust rests, they are excellent upgrades for any lathe.

Another vote for the Robust

Also look at the rests made by Steve Sinner at Advanced Lathe Tools.

I'm also an Advanced Lathe Tools fan.  I own three already and will probably be adding more to my arsenal.

Re: Tool Rest Suggestion?

I have maybe 7 or 8 Robust tool rests in various sizes and types, some for each of two lathes that have the same 1" post diameter but need different post lengths. I'm extremely happy with them. I have a number of other tool rests but I only use the Robust.

If you do metal working you can make your own copycat rests but it sure is easy to just buy them. There are some options depending on personal preference and the kinds of turning you do. If unsure of which post length to order for your lathe call them. They can make custom lengths and such if you want.

I think Robust still have their unconditional lifetime warranty on tool rests; you might ask to make sure.
