Yikes, I turned a bowl!

Not a big bowl. Not very significant except this is probably the first bowl I've turned on purpose in about 5 years.

Walnut, roughed out about 10 years ago, about 9" in diameter, undercut inside the sloped rim. Smoothed with NRS, hand scraping, then hand sanded with 220 & finer (no power sanding). Finish is about 6 coats of "danish" oil.

I made this as a gift for a friend. She saw some of my turnings a few years ago and asked if I could make a bowl for her. Fortunately she is patient!

John, great job, fine-looking piece of walnut!  Glad to see you still haven't lost your touch

Beautiful form, John

I really like the combination of the undercut inside lip and the flared outside lip. A hybrid form. Nice wood, too. You haven't lost knack.

Re: Beautiful form, John

Thanks, good fun!.

With a wide rim, undercutting the inside gives more wall thickness options as I get closer to the rim.

Congrats!

Your muscle memory and reading glasses prescription are still in good shape. ;)
