Air Chucks?

Air Chucks?

Might want to play around with  this during the  winter. I made a vacuum  pump that work in connection with  my compressor that 3 used for vacuum  bagging  veneer.  Wondering if  this could be  used? Any suggestions  about a homemade  connection  for the air?

I wouldn't recommend a compressor for any vacuum set up.  A dedicated vacuum pump is much preferred.  Why run a 2-6HP compressor as compared to a fractional HP (1/4HP)?  Save on electricity.  A vac pump is much quieter.  A vac pump is continuous duty in most cases - a small HP compressor may run almost continuously and overheat.  Just my opinion - worth what you paid for it.  :-)

I don't see any problem with the vacuum venturi. When used to just clean up the bottom of a vessel or bowl, there won't be that long of run time.

Agree about the typical time it would be in use for cleaning a workpiece bottom. How much vacuum is achieved will depend on leakage and I think the venturi method falls short in this category. Note that some wood types are porous so it just isn't "system" leakage. Porosity can be mitigated to a certain degree by applying some finish to seal it up but it usually isn't perfect.
