I used a small block and tackle that worked quite well until I found a swing away. Lift, slide off, lower to the floor, etc... I've heard of turners using plywood to build a short bed section mounted on a rolling cart. Pushed up to the lathe the tailstock is slid over and the cart rolled away. The rolling cart wouldn't work for me as I haven't seen my floor in a while...

If he has floor space a cart can be handy for adding other storage/equipment options as well.

Did some work for a friend and received it as a gift... Can only attribute that to clean livin... Ok, that's a stretch...

My lathe (Nova DVR) had a short bed and the tail stock was an elbow buster.  There were holes in the end of the bed so you could bolt on extensions.  I made an extension the size of the tail stock and bolted it on the end with a single bolt.  I could slide the TS on to it and tip it away.  Eventually I got a bed extension and gave the home made tip away to somebody.  It worked well.

Thanks Berry, Yes, I have seen some of these home built systems.  Not everyone has the skills to pull it off.  I was looking for something to bolt on.

I use a bed extension too to get the tailstock out of the way. � However, what I didn’t see here was the person’s reason for the tilt-away. � If he wants to move the tailstock to allow sliding the headstock down to the end of the bed to make some operations easier, the extension wouldn’t help. � (I used to just slide it off and put it on the floor but I had more energy back when I was 71. )

Maybe the OP could clarify the need.

The need is to purchase a tilt-away.  No desire to adapt, construct, or substitute alternates.

Vicmarc makes one https://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/193/4963/vicmarc-Tailstock-Swing-Away but you'd need to determine if it could be adapted.  If money's no object, I'd talk to the folks at Robust to see if they'd either make one for you, or an adapter to use theirs.  With the increased amount of gray hair among turners, it might just pay Brent to market one.

Robust used to sell a tilt-away for the 3520, I think they stopped due to lack of demand. Have you seen this one?
