I start with a single edge razor blade and use it like a scraper. Then touch up with sandpaper.

I use a card scraper sharpened to a blistering 90° angle but not rolled over at all with a burnisher.

Plus 1 on the scraper idea.  I have also used a razor blade and shaved off the excess, lifting it rather than scraping it.

You can also use a little lacquer thinner on a fingertip to smooth it out, probably after scrapping or shaving. It can melt the surface and restore the gloss.

I'd like to try the scraping method(s), but this work piece is convex is such a way that the blade it would seem, would have to be shaped carefully to avoid the corners of the scraper/blade from digging into the piece. I know there are such curved card scrapers, but I don't have any. I'll try to make one.

Snap or cut off the ends of the razor blade

But for this case a curved wood sanding block may be the best.

Grind the edge of a desired width chisel to the radius that will work
