Prayer wheel - fun turning project
This is a prayer wheel I made for friends of mine. They are both musicians and the song on the outside is one John wrote for their wedding many years ago. (Laser engraver had some issues, so it wobbles a little, but still looks pretty good.)
Base is dyed Curly Maple with Kingwood holders. The wheel is Curly Maple with Brazilian Cherry lid and base. Handle is, I think, also Brazilian Cherry. The bead is Bloodwood with a 1/2" steel bearing epoxied inside as the box was heavier than intended and this provided (more than) sufficient weight to get it spinning. Bronze bearings in the box base and handle top. Quarter inch steel rod runs from the lid to the handle, epoxied into the lid. Used a hangman's knot to tie the nylon cord to the box and bead. (No intended commentary on marriage.)
As I understand it, the idea is to write a prayer and put it in the box. Every rotation of the wheel signifies one recitation of the prayer.
In the base.

On side, in front of base.

Disassembled.
