Lacer Skew for spindle turning
I'm looking for a new skew chisel for windsor chair leg turning. I was looking over Packard for choices and noticed the Lacer skew in two sizes. I currently use a 3/4" buck brothers flat skew with a slightly curved profile at an angle. I was thinking the 5/8" Lacer might work for me but wanted to get input from anyone who has tried it. It is a different profile.

Jack, I use a 3/4" and a 1-1/4" skew. When doing legs, I tend to favor the larger blade. Small blade is Sorby (about 20 yrs old) and the larger is Henry Taylor (about 15 years old). Both M2 HSS.
I just bought new skews from Thompson tools. I haven't put them to the test yet.

I think that you will find it easier with a wider skew, especially when turning long spindles. The Lacer skew has a long curved edge and it works well for me. Look on Alan Lacer's web site where he discusses the shape and angle of skews.

The lacer skew is excellent. I like my Thompson 1" skew.

A particular end profile (straight across, straight 70 degree, curved 70 degree, other) can be given to any skew. Lightly rounding over or chamfering the long edges can reduce nicks on cast iron tool rests, and ease sliding along a tool rest.
