Re: Jig to cut Staves
Larry,
Bill H. have you good info on the main board. If what he gave you, perhaps you can refine your question? Staves are used in turning but also coopering. You planning on making a barrel or bucket?

I was wanting the jig for Turning
Re: Jig to cut Staves
I saw an article about just such a jig in an old issue of American Woodturner. Think it was a February 2014 issue. Let me check real quick. (Take a moment to imagine me running upstairs to find it. <clomp><clomp><clomp><clomp><clomp>)
I'm back. Nope, it was the latest issue, as I suspect the other comments may have already conveyed. June 2022, volume37, number 3. Page 24.
If you are not a member of the AAW, consider joining. Well worth the membership fee (which gets you the journal about 10 times a year and access to all the previous issues through the website. Plus lots of other useful stuff. If that still doesn't convince you, you can probably pick up this latest issue at a bookstore/newsstand that may carry it. I know Barnes and Noble use to do so, but it's been a few years since I was in one. You may also be able to get it through the website without being a member.

Re: Jig to cut Staves
When I turn wood staved case formers for the Pyrotechnic Guild, I glue a cross support wood block across both ends of the staved vessel and provide a center point for the tail stock to support and a glued in wood block with a center point that I drive with a spur drive or an adjustable chuck for larger diameter vessels. Once the outer surface of the vessel is turned, I use a steady rest with rubber wheels on the outside turned surface to allow removal of the glued in blocks and finish turning the top and bottom of the piece.

Do you use a jig to cut the Staves?
Re: Jig to cut Staves
Kevin Neely has one on his site. I built it. It works. turnedwood.com It's under the jigs segmented turning tab
