I have been using a Badger and small Hercules in a similar fashion, hollowing the bowls of spoons. Great tools for that kind of work

Good "discovery" Gary.  All of my jars are turned end grain and almost are bone dry.  I've been using Hunter cutters on my boring bars (3/4, 1 & 1-1/4") for years to hollow the final 1/4" of thickness as they leave a much nicer surface.  I machined a pair of holders to hold the cutters.  1 straight

and 1 bent

Although you can't see it in the pics, there's a very thin piece of lead sheet under the cutter to negate any imperfection in the seating surfaces between the cutter and the holder.

The Oland tool is a scraper. I prefer scrapers for hogging out wood on my bowls. It is faster than gouges. It does leave a rough surface, but that is when I switch to the gouge for finish cuts. Check out my video Scary Scrapers, and the Big Ugly tool. The carbide cutters can do a really nice job on bowls for finish cuts. I just can't bring myself to use them though because of the fact that you really can't sharpen them when they get dull. I want to use my tools till there is nothing left...

Yes the Osprey is great as well as the Viceroy

My old reliable Hunter #5 Badger is my go-to tool for many similar tasks.

Agreed.  But I'm working thru an 11/16" hole so that's not much clearance for my #5 Badger's 10/16" shaft. 

My Osprey is 1/2", which gives me a tad more space for diagonal movement.
