fruitwood pith
I watched a youtube video where the fellow turned a small hollow form from an apple branch but it appeared there was no pith in the wood. Do some woods not have a pith?

I got some osage orange once, maybe 12 inch diameter, and the pith was all the way over on one side of the tree, not even close to the center. My guess was that it was growing on a steep hill. With that piece, I could have gotten a good sized hollow form centering in the log, but with no pith. This is very unusual.

The more horizontal the branch, the farther off the center the pith is -- support.
