Salve for Wood Bowls
I have always used 4 parts mineral oil to 1 part beeswax. Is the mineral oil really necessary, one additional cost to skip? I have also heard of a mixture of beeswax and coconut oil. So, I would appreciate comments on firs the use of mineral oil and second what formulation you use - components and ratio. Thanks

I used to make my own; cooked mineral oil and several waxes including paraffin, bees, and carnuba for treenware. I quite the hassle in favor if this stuff:
Does just as well as anything for stuff to be used for food.

I’ve used a 70/30 mineral oil to beeswax mix for a number of years. Yes, there are other alternatives, but this is cheap and easy to make since I get the beeswax from my own hives. I have a dedicated pot to make the mixture that I put in another pot with water as a kind of double boiler. Works great.

My mix is 1 gallon food grade mineral, 12 to 16 oz bee's wax. I blend in a crock pot.
