I don't really know much about it other than it had a huge impact on turned art. There were a lot of pros and cons about the gallery but at the time I wasn't at the point of trying to get my work in there. It was my goal but then the gallery died. Don't remember all the circumstances.

How big? They promoted the best artists with some nice shows and printed nice show catalogs. I don’t know particulars, but understand some artists were not treated well when the business failed. They always had a nice display at SOFA

....years before the"troubles" led to their demise. They had an annual show named "Small Treasures" for works under 6" which gave me the idea to collect smaller works also under 6". Their show catalogs were a great resource for seeing works from a variety of contemporary turners.

For a time they were the 'place to be seen' for wood art.

They set prices.

They helped elevate the profile of wood art in general and a number of artists specifically.

Some of my friends were ecstatic after being chosen for one of their shows

If an wood artist got picked up by them, it was a sure sign that they had Made It.

It was a nice gallery to browse, they had a back room with some pretty amazing stuff.

I was a customer a few years before they, closed not a client.

As noted, there were problems with artists being paid for sales and it was pretty messy when the end came.

There were a few well know folks who would Tell you what they thought of Del Mano unprompted. They were pretty negative. Some were owed thousands.

well, apparently a lady opened an online gallery called 'woodsymphony' and took over Del Mano's fb page...

so im not sure how it happened, but apparently Del Mano is now an online gallery called Woodsymphony...

Reason im asking is that somehow i got an email from them and i replied and wound up as one of their artists... and i just sold a piece last month through them.. so im happy...

but wasnt sure of the Del Mano connection.. The WoodGallery got a story written up about them in the british magazine 'woodturning' and i was at barns and nobel the other night flipping through magazines and found their story and my name was listed in it.. which prompted me to spend $12 on a magazine i had very little interest in but bought it only cause it had my name in it.... lol...

anyways... so do y'all think that storefront galleries are going the way of the dodo and that online ones are what's gonna be available?

Not sure how it every settled out, but lots of on-line chatter from many of the original prominent artists. Complaints about not being paid for work when the gallery closed, and then opening the on-line gallery and finding newer, less prominent artists to fill in didn't go over well in the community. Now all that is second hand knowledge, maybe it all washed out. Both of the original founders of Del Mano are dead. What commission do they charge to put a picture on the internet?

Go to SOFA this year and find out.

Del Mano went to online only after the gallery closed. Larisa was helping them when Ray died and decided to continue the online shows. Its not delMano, but the exhibitions use many of the same names since they have been annual events for decades.

Art Wood gallery in Bellingham WA is still around. They struggled during the recession, but are still around
