4" green maple log

My buddy just handed me a green 4" diameter, 3' section of maple. My imagination is coming up empty, is there any use for this thing? Thinking it's too small for bowls (the only thing I've done with green wood to date) and I assume if I make it into a cylinder for some kind of future spindle or baseball bat it will warp and split like crazy. Is this destined for the fire pit?

Shrink boxes... I know it's cheating to use the lathe for these, but they sure are fun to turn.

People turn goblets from green branches. Some turn long-stem goblets and the stems warp nicely.

You could cut 3/4" thick slices which are popular for parties and weddings for drink coasters. You could also cut the log length ways down the middle and let it dry and end up with some spindle blanks. Wine glasses and goblets are fun to turn and are popular items in some areas. I have also turned spheres from green logs and made various items from them.

I don't see it as cheating! I make Shot glasses and baby rattles using the shrink pot method. Keep up the good work. It looks great.

Turn small, thin wall, natural edge, side grain hollowforms. Won't take much time and lots of folks don't have room or $ for larger pieces. I've sold a bunch of small work.
Great stuff to carve spoons with!

I cut them in half (more or less) and possibly in quarters. I could turn four stretchers out of such a maple log.
