Time is marching on for 10 peafowl eggs and 30 more guinea eggs. (28 days at 100F, 60% RH, auto-turned every hour. I candled them all today - it is fascinating to see shadows of the embryos moving and kicking inside. I discarded one peafowl egg due to failure to develop but the rest are growing rapidly inside.

I got two more peafowl eggs from the birds today, numbering 10 so far for the second batch to start incubation at noon tomorrow. Our friend with some new peacocks found her first egg today so I'll add that one plus any the birds lay tomorrow.
I would have tagged along with J.L. but demands of the farm, two all-day trips this week, and preparing for a demo here for Tuesday precluded getting away. I'm nursing a llama with a jaw abscess, requiring at least an hour care every day - hot compresses, opening and flushing the abscess with betadine, and sub-q injections of 9ccs of a potent antibiotic - over $300 so far but I'm hoping to avoid the really expensive CAT scan and surgery, looking less likely now but still a possibility. Sold 18 of the first hatch of chickens this week, and 10-12 of the 26 guinea hatch from last week are already spoken for. Got 20 pearls, four partially white, and 2 pearls!

Just now saw the photos request, sorry. A truly excellent presentation, chock full of pointers few demonstrators ever offer. I understand why John Lucas would be an in demand demonstrator.

Why aren't the vet school students paying back for the turning lessons with abscess assistance? Heck, they should pay you for the hands on opportunity!

Actually, I have four people willing to come help with such things, one even offers to take an animal to her farm if it needs extended care. The vet students are now finished with finals and out of school for the summer and either would probably be glad to come help after work.
But besides the driving time (2 hrs round trip for one) I want to do this care myself for this animal. Llamas are particularly touchy about being touched, especially with sharp needles piercing their skin! I know this one well, the things she will tolerate, how to gently catch, lead, and constrain her, and how best to distract and keep her calm. Another person may have to resort to coercion and things might even deteriorate from there, could get frustrating with a 300 lb animal with lightning-fast reflexes! Even a llama expert I know was injured recently working on an unfamiliar animal.
