One of the best reasons to epoxy the floor is to get the reflective index inherent white paint. All the Navy hangar spaces are painted so the the available lighting is enhanced and therefore fewer errors take place in repair of aircraft. But, its just a verbal discussion now that John has decided against that option.

Just a thought: I poured a new floor in my 140 year old brick shop a few year back and took the opportunity to spray a quick coat of white on everything since it was empty. Really glad I did for 2 reasons:

1. Made a huge difference in the brightness of the shop

2. The paint makes it a lot easier to clean off the walls from saw dust

As many of you know I attend freight auctions. I recently got a small amount of Excellent quality laminate flooring that is wood grain and light gray in color. I put it down in the open floor area of my shop. It's terrific. Bright, easy to sweep and clean, gentler on the feet than concrete. I put the pad under it. And in my case, cheap. My shop is small and the little dab I bought at the auction cost me about $25 and I already had the pad left over from flipping a house. I have scavenged up more to fill in the missing spots, so the floor looks a little higgledy piggledy, but I don't care. I only wish I had put it down in the beginning. The cheap stuff is crap and the top of the line stuff is too much money unless you get it cheap.

On a floor that will most likely see all sorts of industrial stains, chemicals, paints and finishes you can acid stain or pigment stain the concrete to give it a marbled accent and then seal it This will protect the concrete and makes it difficult to identify small spills and stains later on.

Or you can get ahead of the curve and take all of those old cans of finish you have sitting around and randomly spread them on the floor and create your own custom accent floor finish. :-)

I suggest you put up French cleats on all of the walls before moving in or it will never happen. Paint the walls white for light. I have had good luck with cement floor paint. Much cheaper and easier than epoxy.
