staves for fishing rod tube?

HELP! I used to have a formula at my finger tips that showed me what length, withth and thickness to use at what angle for different numbers of pieces to make a fishing tube. Some of mine were 8, or 7 or 6 sided and the wood was usually less than 1/4 in thickness. Anyone know that formula? Philip

Well, I don't know a particular formula, but I wrote a program to calculate such things many years ago. I used it for other stuff. It used to be available for download on the Creek. You might try segment calculators for bowl turning - same thing. I think there are some other free calculators out there. Might even be a spreadsheet or two. I'd offer mine, but it has been so long, I don't know where the code is!

the angle, double the number of sides and divide into 360. So if you wanted a six sided tube you divide 12 into 360 and get 30 degrees.
But I really like the calculator. Gives you lots of other variables and may save a lot of fiddling.
I made a bunch of tubes for bird houses. clamped them with a combination of hose clamps and stretchy rubber surgical tubes. Worked great.
