It has been over a year since I turned anything, because our house was sold and stuff was in storage, etc.... Still not organized, but making progress. I was asked to do a bowl to be auctioned off to benefit the Phoenix Children's Chorus, which my son sings in. The song burned into the bowl is their encore every year ending their spring concerts. It is called "Why We Sing." After i was finished with it all, I found the beading tool that made burning the staff lines so easy and consistent. I wish i had found it before I did the work, but such is life. It feels good to make something again. I was going to upload a pic, but it is over 100k, and when I try to make it smaller, it gets pixelated. I'll have to try tomorrow.

It only has to go.down to.95 K so you shouldn't need to shrink it much.

You can resize easily with the right software. It's best to first change the dimensions of the photo to reduce the number of pixels, for example for pictures 3456x2592 pixels from one of my cameras I reduce the size to maybe 640x480. Then I save the picture as a JPG with enough compression to get the picture below 100k bytes on the disk. I use Photoshop for resizing and compressing which makes it a one-click trivial process, but numerous programs will do the same thing once you know how.

If you don't have an image editing program, there are on-line solutions. Ellis once posted good instructions to use Picresize.com - check this thread:

Microsoft paint has a simple image resize function in the tool bar, resize and save.

I never did see a way in Paint to control the JPG compression while saving, necessary unless you just want to keep reducing the size until you get under 100K.

Is that in Paint somewhere and I just missed it? Maybe it's in some versions and not other. If it's not there at all the program doesn't seem very useful for resizing for WoodCentral.

I was interested about the Paint comment all so. So I went looking to see if I had a version with Windows 10 Pro. I discovered that I have Paint 3D but not the regular Paint program of old.

I didn't see anyway in the 3D version to resize either.

Perhaps we can get a response to our questions.

The easy response is to just use the on-line program Picresize.com for occasional pictures.

The instructions are in the message earlier in this thread.

I tried it and it took just a few seconds to set the desired size and tell it to resize this picture of some burls to a 99Kbyte file size limit:


If doing a lot get an image processing program. Photoshop and the inexpensive Photoshop Elements both have a Save To Web option that makes this even easier.

BTW, my Win 10 has Paint under Programs/Windows Accessories.

In general, this isn't useful unless you can specify the amount of JPG compression which determines the actual file size on the disk independent of the image size. The only option I see in Paint is to keep reducing to smaller and smaller images until the file gets under the 100K limit. This could end up with a pretty small image, depending on the compression scheme the programmers provided.

Cropping even in small areas helps reduce the final size. I use paint in a windows 7 machine.
