looking for a new lathe
GaryG in MD
My 17-year-old Jet 1236 has crapped out. They don't appear to be making them any more.
I'm looking for a new wood spinner. I've been thinking about a Jet 1221 VS, but that seems a bit on the short side to me even though I rarely (if ever?) made use of the full 36" length.
I have just become aware of the new Laguna 12/16 REVO EVS via a Woodcraft ad.
I have some fairly unique requirements including a total weight of lathe and base under 200 pounds because I have to be able to lift one end at a time.
The REVO appears to be a 1216 lathe (even shorter than the Jet 1221) with a 1-HP motor, and typical specs with an 1" x 8 tpi MT2 spindle, etc. Available at extra cost are things like a short-end bed extender that appears to have a 16" capability, solid legs, and a mobility kit. The lathe and base come in at 199 pounds, so it would be a bit heavier with the add-ons. I'll just have to pump me up!
I'm intrigued, but concerned about the short length.
I would like to hear comments about Laguna in general and thoughts on this new lathe in particular, given that I seriously doubt if anybody has purchased one yet.
Thanks, GG
