Just a Simple Bowl

Don Orr

I harvested a bunch of Black Walnut a few years ago from behind a friends house from which I made them several bowls. Well come to find out the tree was not actually on his property but he was allowed to take it down so it didn't block the solar panels he was having installed. My friend wanted a bowl for the real owner so I went to my stash and found a nice blank and turned this from it. It was surprisingly dry. It's about 12" diameter and 5" deep. Finished with my usual Bush Oil. He picked it up today and was very pleased. I was also pleased with how it came out.

As usual, you do excellent work.

Nice piece of wood too.

All too often, I find myself asking about a posting "nice concept" or "great execution", but "what's it good for". It is gratifying to see a nice, straightforward piece with great form and finish AND an obvious practical use.

Nice one! But I feel cheated - no photo of the inside? I like the rim design.

Sorry John

Here is a shot of the inside. Lighter areas are obviously sapwood.
