It has been a long time! Just got the urge to drop in and see how everyone is doing. I'm still turning. I teach turning weekly at a big makerspace in Baltimore, and crank out bowls regularly. Recently realized I'd not really learned anything new in about 10 years or so, and am now having incredible results using the 40/40 and Mahoney's neg rake scraper ground to Batty's recommendation of 40 - 20 on each side. Every time I turn a bowl I'm absolutely shocked at zero torn grain and next to no tool marks. Blows me away! My shapes and finishes have never been so good and done so quickly. Blown away. Prior, I'd been using David's grind on every gouge forever. Nice to learn new things!
