Need Help ID'ing this wood

Paul Grenier

HI,

I bought this piece of wood from the estate of a wood turner. His widow didn't know what it was and it wasn't marked. Can anyone identify it for me?

I just turned it round and it made my nose run like a faucet is all that I know about it.

I know that I'll be wearing my3M Versaflo while I turn it!

Allertec Wood?

Barry Irby

Many woods cause allergic reactions. There are charts available that describe some of the reactions for various types of wood. WoodWeb and US Forest Product Laboratory would be good sources. I think we will need a few more details. Some reactions can be much more severe than a runny nose. There is a saying, There are people who are allergic to Cocobolo and others who will be Allergic to Cocobolo.

Also, read this:

https://www.wood-database.com/wood-articles/wood-identification-guide/

If you can get a photo describe the wood - density, end grain structure (diffuse porous, ring porous), color, figure, smell.

At worst case, email the photo and I'll post it.
