Willow
Jim Barbour
I got an interesting request today. The client wants a Willow bowl. I’ve never turned willow, but have worked with it as a target backer for tomahawk and knife throwing competition, but that is an entirely different thing. I cannot imagine that it turns easily given how soft and stringy it is - lots of tear out I imagine.
Has you turner willow? Any advice beyond VERY sharp tools? Perhaps more importantly, do you have any suggestions on a source for dry willow - time does not allow turning green and allowing to dry. I am thinking willow sandwiched between hardwood pieces top and bottom to give more stability to the finished piece.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
