Cedar Shavings for Mulch?

Been turning some cedar (eastern red) lately. Is it alright to use the cedar shavings as mulch? I know that walnut shavings can cause issues with some garden species.

not a problem. You can buy cedar mulch at the big box stores. It has a side benefit in that it discourages insects.

Pretty sure most of the cedar shavings in the big box stores are Western Red Cedar and not Eastern cedar. Different species, but I think either one makes acceptable mulch.
