I returned home from Portland last night. Drove both ways. As a solo vendor, I can't really leave the trade show, so I only hung out there. As I wondered around the trade show, a couple of things struck me as compared to my first show in 2003.

1 - It is amazing how many new scraping tools are on the market. Carbide or not, there seemed to be a lot of them.

2 - The "big guys" did not show in force. Packard hasn't been to a show in a few years. Peachtree wasn't there. Craft Supplies only took orders for subsequent shipping.

3 - Only one wood vendor and their booth was small.

I tried to enter the instant gallery, and I turned around as soon as I entered. I needed at least two hours in there and I didn't have it. It was HUGE. Good for you if you brought something to share.

I know what you mean... I barely had any time to look in the instant gallery... or even do more than a cursory walk through of the vendor area.

It was great fun having our booth next to yours... a friendly neighbor!

I greatly missed being there. I am also surprised at the lack of reporting on the forums about the symposium. Usually se eral people post photos and describe whats going on. Not a peep on any of the forums. Perhaps they were having too much fun.

This was the best attended show in several years, which was nice. Great for me since it was just down the road. Considering how long it is taking me to 'rest up', I am not sure if I want to be a vendor again without having a helper or two... For sure, it is a lot to take in in the limited time we had. I still get a kick out of first timers who by Sunday have a glazed look in their eyes.... You know, 'I can't absorb any more!!!'

There are a lot of photos on the AAW Facebook page, according to Vicki. It was a good event, a lot of nice work in the instant gallery. Not much energy in the auction, or the banquet-they had them at different times because of the on-line auction and the late hour on the east coast.

Reed, I enjoyed the symposium and had a lot of fun helping John Jordan at his booth for three days. If you decide that you want help next March at the symposium in Albany please let me know. I'm planning on attending and maybe we can work something out where I can help you a few hours each day or with the setup/take down. I'm still recuperating myself, plum wore me out!

Joe, you needed to spend more time outside the booth... ;)

I can think of five wood vendors off the top of my head: Gilmer, NW Figured, CWP (which was usually not manned), the one next to Boxmaster tools and the Mesquite people out of Texas

Well, and Robo had some wood.
