I'll be visiting London for about two weeks in late July and would be grateful for suggestions on anything of interest to a turner -- exhibitions, craft shows or fairs, club meetings, vendors, etc. I'll be based on the west side of London, Hammersmith - Charing Cross Hospital area. Day trips a possibility though I don't expect to drive.

There might be some interesting things going on related to The Worshipful Company of Turners...a London based 400 year old club. Contact some of the membership to see if there are any gallery showings, workshops and the like...link below.

Could be related to wood: visit Kings Cross train station, platform 9-3/4, a Harry Potter attraction they added when remodeling a few years ago. You could probably sell a bunch of magic wands before the management ran you off! (There is a Harry Potter store right there.)
I don't know about turning-related things, but there is so much else worth seeing. Be sure to walk out at night and see the bridges lit up.
I would definitely buy a pass for the Underground - you can get almost everywhere and quickly on the subway.
One thing I highly recommend not far from London: Stonehenge. The standard walkaround is OK but you have to stay on a sidewalk some distance from the rocks. Few people know this, but if you make reservations in advance for a small fee you can go with a special group before things are open to the public. With this group you can go past the barriers and walk INSIDE the circle, right among the stones! Incredible!
If driving, there are similar stones in other places and they are free. Avebury is our favorite of these. Quaint little village too. We try to visit Avebury and the surrounding countryside every time we go to England. http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/avebury/
The British museum is a must see, I think. The Rosetta stone is there, along with more than you can possibly see in week.
Can you take more time? A train ride up to Scotland is worth the effort, even if just to see the castle in Edinburgh.

You won't be far away from the Victoria and Albert Museum in Kensington. One of the greatest museums in the world with lots of furniture and wood related items.
