Casuarina/She-Oak/Australian Pine
Don Stephan
Anyone with experience turning this wood? Very nice woman had a large one removed from their Florida property (the state is trying to eradicate) and brought me a piece to have some bowls turned. Right nasty wood to turn - cutting edge dulls wthin a minute - and downright heavy, but very pretty wood.
In paper grocery bags on the concrete floor, the wood is drying excrutiatingly slowly, compared to ask, cherry, walnut, and other common Ohio woods. Moisture gauge still reading 10-14% so it's not dry enough to sand and apply finish.
Anyone have experience with this wood to share?
