I got to see 3 of Barbara Dill's demos this weekend @ Totally Turning so I actually understand how you did it. The 3 different textures make it extra interesting and fun.

I turned one of those shapes, though not a box, on the last warm day I had here.

I did it as a pedestal for a hexasphericon.

It's sitting on my desk waiting for action.

My intention is to texturize and color one or more of the three sides.

I carved the top to hold one of the edges of said item.

Your carved "circles" are very close to what I had/have in mind, although my plan is to make them denser or larger toward the bottom (not sure which yet).

You've given me extra impetus to get with the program and work with that pedestal!

John, is it an optical illusion or what? I seem to count four sides looking at the top of the box.

My small brain was initially twisted by the twist and the ring pattern on the top. I think the dome on the top added to my confusion. I had to make a careful diagram before it started to make sense.

John L., how 'bout a quick photo of the top looking straight down? You don't even have to set up the lights, you will even be forgiven for a cell phone photo. [gasp]

I hope you will bring it to the Crossville club meeting tomorrow.

I got to see the box yesterday evening at the club meeting. I snapped a quick cell pone photo of the top - I know, it's a horrible photo with horrible color under fluorescent lights!

It looked good up close too, of course. Sir Lucas does great work!
