I was playing with an idea on turning a bowl with a scrap inside and them removing it and gluing the 2 halves together to form a football shaped bowl. Thought it looked like a flower so here is the result. Used Cold Bend wood for all of the leaves and vines.

It is wood that can be bent without heat. Just keep it wet. What I have found is that it can be dried for easier working properties and the rewet to be able to bend it. It bends far tighter traditional woods. It is hard to turn because it's much more flexible than standard woods of any given size. Great stuff to play with although I have a long way to go to discover what all can be done with it.

Looks great John. Jeanne Douphrate demoed this wood at SWAT and also came to our club (Hill Country Turners). She has a website and an article in AAW. Very creative young lady.

Thx John it's very interesting. Reading what they say it seems fairly easy to use but requires being little fussy with the humidity level, but that's true with most wood.

Very cool! I love the base too. Would you call the technique "lost wood"? I've seen it described that way if I understand adding a scrap and then removing it after the turning part.

Outstanding composition and execution as always.

Very unique. I am happy to turn a pen blank that isn't out of kilter. BTW, what is cold bending?
