Powermatic 3520A
Jorge
A fellow turner in this island, left us recently and the widow would like to sell the lathe. She asked me advice in pricing it.
It was used heavily some 5 years and the next 10 or so little to nothing...
Help please

I think turning gear in good condition is worth about 60% of new current-model items. A new 3520C seems to be $4500, 60% of that is $2700. Someone should go over it carefully to be sure it's all working properly, free of rust on the ways, etc. And you need to consider what might be coming along with it in the way of chucks and jaws, extra tool rests, turning tools, and the like, which can add significant value.

I purchased my 3520A for $2000 about 15 years ago. It was going up $500 the next month. I would think it's worth at least 2 grand if not a little more.

I purchased mine about a year ago for 1800.00.I would think it is worth 1800 to 2000.00.
Depends on how many people she wants to show up

If she doesn't mind talking to 10-15 folks coming over and picking through her husbands shop, ask $2,000. If she wants to talk to one person, ask $1,500. I've seen many widows overwhelmed by the whole process while grieving. Money may not be the primary concern vs. just getting over the difficult process.

Is the machine still supported by PM? One person told me that PM drops support as soon as a new version in a line is released. He just replaced his 3520B with a Laguna because PM would no longer offer parts to the B with the C's release.

Don't know where you heard that. As far as I know powermatic still supports many older machines. I know of 2 people who purchased VFD's and one who broke the Spindle lock and purchased a new one for the 3520A.

In addition, I'll bet there isn't that much difference and about 98% of parts work on all three models A, B & C.

Powermatic sold the 3520B up until this past summer, I would find it surprising that Powermatic would not have the parts to support their five year warranty.

That would be odd. They still have 3520B's under warranty. When I had my PM 90 I bought a lot of OEM parts from Powermatic. It was unbelievable the number of parts they still had for the PM 90's. Main problem was getting the right part number as some of the parts list were incorrect.

I hope my information was incorrect.
