Anyone ever tried bleaching ambrosia maple?
I’ve got a piece that the wood is really dark if I put a ting oil finish on... it’s darker than most of the non-beetle chewed maple I have...

Use an acrylic finish.
For photo sizing, I just use preview on my Mac.

It's been a long time since I bleached Ambrosia maple but if I remember correctly it bleaches the lighter areas and not the darker ones. If you have red maple instead of sugar maple it will come out very dark especially with oil. When I want to keep the wood as light as possible I use Krylon fixatif spray or water based poly.

To post photos simply reduce the image to a reasonable size (for example 600 or 800 pixels across) and reduce the file size to under 100K bytes. Then click the "Browse" button just above where you type the message text.

Beautiful. Do you have any scraps to play with. I had some red maple that looked like that and when i put a finish on it the light areas got so dark it lost all the contrast. The two finishes i mentioned change wood the least but they still.change it. Ideally i would do a test on scrap

Here is a bad photo of ambrosia maple that has been bleached. I bleached it because it had awful blue stain in the wood. It is finished with Krylon Matte acrylic. It has yellowed a bit with age.
