Eli Avisera is well worth seeking out. I met him at one of the first AAW symposiums I demoed at. Very nice guy. I've been following him ever since and he turns incredible pieces.

We did a similar tour of Israel about a month ago. It's very interesting and educational, but probably a very busy program. Based in Tiberias, you will likely get to Safed, which is full of art galleries. we did not see much wood work, but many other interesting things. While in the north, it is worth visiting the Golan Heights Winery in Quatzrin.

If your tour includes a visit to Bethlehem, you will be stopping at some very large souvenir shops on the way back. There are a lot of olive wood carvings etc. from the West Bank and very nice jewellery made from Malachite - the only semi-precious stone found in the area. Don't forget to bargain hard over the price. The asking price is about double of what you should pay.

If Bethlehem is not on your organized tour, don't go there alone.

Yafo (Jaffa) in Tel Aviv also has a lot of art galleries. Did not notice any turnings, though.

Remember to dress conservatively - or you will not be let into some of the more interesting sites. Pants and skirts below the knee, women should have a shawl or shirt to cover the top. Flash photography is generally not allowed indoors.
