Wife had a great idea about excess inventory

I've been moaning about too much wood and too many completed items for the last couple of years. Especially the bigger work that doesn't sell at the holiday gift shows. Also at the age of 65, we are constantly bombarded about insurance, death planning, etc... So Shirley had the idea that she'll just take the tubs of work to my wake and everyone can take one. Eased my mind in one direction, but also added to the angst of aging! Got a feeling there will be a truck load of blanks in the parking lot for all my turning friends.

Or leave them in your will to the local turning club for auction or sale.

I have it in my health care directive that they can't unplug the respirator until I've turned all the blanks in my stash. That way, I know I've got a lifetime supply!

I think your wife is planning to get rid of you.

Maybe, lol!

End of life issues are an active discussion in our home recently. My Mom was admitted into a nursing home on Dec. 26 due to extreme dementia. During the admission, I had to sign more papers than when I bought the house. Of course I had to sign the DNR. That's a very hard thing to absorb about your Mother.

so sorry to hear about your mother. That's tough. Went through that with my DAd last year and my Step son this year. Not fun but did get to spend a lot of quality time with them. My former boss was taken to the hospital 2 weeks ago and was diagnosed with advanced dimentia. While testing for that they found out he had some sort of massive virus in his colon. they removed his colon a few days later and he never woke up after the surgery. He was apparently ready to go. Going to his celebration of life memorial Saturday. We have, fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, reached that stage in life where you spend a lot of time going to funerals for friends and family.

I haven't tried taking my excess turnings to a funeral but I have taken them to a family reunion.

Over the years I think I have given everyone in my family one of everything, pen, box, bowl, platter, plate, snow man, birdhouse, mushroom, vase, goblet, stopper, coaster, scoop, spurtle, rolling pin, and who knows what else.

So I took a couple of large boxes of excess stuff to our last family reunion and I swear when it came time to go home I believe there was more stuff in those boxes than when we got there. I am pretty sure some of the local relatives went home and got some of the stuff they had been gifted, brought it back and put it in the box. I didn't take a count before and after but I am almost certain I gained turnings on that deal. :\

Relatives might not do that at your funeral but I wouldn't put it past some of mine to send me off with more than I died with....

It's when you try to spit but don't succeed. :)

Mike, you may have to do like the Egyptian pharaohs, bury them with you.

A spurtle: besides being a great beginners turning project, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spurtle

with all my woodpiles and my unsold pieces, would be a good way to incinerate my cadaver before the flies and beetles get into it, so a double win, clean up the property and save a thousand.

I hadn't read about your mom when I posted that to pick at you-sorry to hear about her. Vicki and I have both been through all that, as so many of us our age have.
