I am guessing you are considering the small Carter system. I have never used nor seen close-up that unit, but I am unimpressed by what I see in their on-line site. It looks like you would be spending big bucks mostly for a totally unnecessary sealed bearing support roller. Everything else you could make in the shop for a tenth of the cost of their unit. Among other issues, I do not see any torque-arrest mechanism, even though the ad mentions one. Perhaps is is just a flat surface on the boring bar itself. I use a partially shop-made system based on a Jamieson captured boring bar.

I'm with Dennis. The system is well made. I have looked over it closely. It just seems unnecessarily complicated. I also have a homemade Jamieson style system. My first on had a wooden secondary tool rest and I used it that way for about 10 years before finally building a metal one. I would be glad to walk you through making a system like that. My first one didn't even have any welding. All I needed was a hacksaw a file a drill and some patience.

I wonder why it is for sale?? I agree with Dennis, the limits with ineffective torque arrest will be frustrating.
