Another mid sized lathe enters the market. Clicked on a link from Woodworkers Journal to this from Harvey. Some interesting approaches with direct servo drive and reasonably beefy construction.

Well it's interesting by you can buy a full size Jet 16" lathe for less money. I wonder if the electronic braking can be slowed down. That's an awfully fast stop if you had a 12 to 14" bowl on there. You would need a set screw to lock the chuck or faceplate to the spindle.

Harvey is our newest major advertiser. Hopefully you've seen their ads here on the forum and around the website. I have known the principal of the company for over 25 years and can testify as to their integrity and experience. I am looking for a medium duty lathe myself, and though I have not actually tried the Harvey model, I'm very intrigued and will definitely give them a look.

Looks like a very good drive and strong machine. I don't like the two handles on the front of the head stock which would be in my way when turning. ( lock for head rotation & lever for drive belt tension ). I would be bumping into them with my body some times turning close to the headstock. I didn't see the weight on the specifications, but I suppose its a lot more than than this old fart can handle by myself. So for me it wouldn't be easily transported around.
