deep hollow form tear out

turning a hf thats bigger than i normally do... I turn mostly mesquite, walnut, or elm... almost always end grain...
Piece of walnut I'm doing is about 15 inches deep....using a boring bar..... and i keep getting tear out, while using a scraper to clean up the bottom..
is it because i need a tool rest thats deep inside the hollow form? or a heavier boring bar? I'm using a steady rest, so thats not the reason...
so whats causing the vibrations?

Others will offer opinions. Here is mine, I hollow beyond 12” with a 1 1/2” boring bar. Anything less at that depth will vibrate and cause problems.

15" deep with a 3/4" boring bar, if that's what you are using, you will get chatter. You need a freshly sharpened tool and very light cuts. A thicker bar will make it easier.

Tear out and vibration troubles are two different issues. We need more info. Send a photo of your hollowing system.
