Tom, I'm a member of the Vet's Garage here in Spokane where they teach a variety of skills. The garage also has a woodworking shop where they teach cabinet making, cnc projects and woodturning. On Tuesdays we have a mentor come in for three or four hours to teach, the lathes are available six days a week for open use. Out of all of the things to do at the Vets Garage the lathes are the most popular among the vets, great theraputic turning happens at the garage. Wish we had a Oneway to turn on. I would be happy to connect you with the guys that run the Vet's Garage if you think they would be a resource for you.

Tom,

If you are unable to locate a factory made replacement at a reasonable cost, you could

find another tail stock assembly and have a riser block made to hold the other tail stock

at the correct height on the lathe ways. The critical aspect is getting the tail stock centered

on the lathe ways so it is perfectly aligned on the machine. Many wood turners have modified

smaller lathes with riser blocks under the head stock and tail stock to increase the diameter

of items to be turned on the machine. Ebay has a number of listings for lathe tail stocks for

various sized machines.

The other possibility would be to find another tail stock about the same size for a 12" machine

you could take measurements from the tail stock and have a machine shop grind the bottom

until it matches up to your One Way dimensions.

Hopefully One Way will work with you and provide a factory made tail stock at cost.

So pleased that Oneway stepped up.

I have their top of the line lathe, 3hp 2436, purchased used in 2002 (built in 1997 and still going strong today).

There has never been a day that I did not appreciate the reliability of a well built lathe like that. And on the rare occasion I had a problem, a phone call to Kevin solved it. Once, he spent over an hour on the phone with me, walking and talking me through trouble-shooting to narrow down an electrical issue, to avoid a very costly replacement. And it was worth it. Together, one by one, we eliminated all the possibilities, and the repair/replacement didn't cost me a dime.
