Our neighbor runs a local non profit that works to get toxic chemicals out of manufacturing and the environment and has had many significant successes. They are having an anniversary, award, and fund raising event next week so I made a peppermill out of Ash for the silent auction. Finish is Bush Oil under 3 coats of WOP with shellac inside. 8" tall. The wide dark bands were burned with focused solar energy (magnifying glass).
I like the form. I'm not sure about the wide bands. I might like them more if you'd framed them with some of the thinner burned lines. But, that's just a quibble. I'd be proud to own it and prouder to have made it.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm not totally sure about the bands either. It needs something else maybe. I was originally going to burn all 4 bands but wifey decided against that. I hope someone likes it enough to bid on it at the silent auction.
Wow - you sure have patience and a steady hand to burn those in with a magnifying glass.
If you want to change the wide bands a bit - how about some stone beads (from a craft store) set into carefully drilled holes? But I think it looks fine with no further embelishment.
