Had shoulder problems a few years back so I built this bar for deep boxes. The lathe is also homemade. Was wondering if anyone else is crazy enough to build all their own tools and machines.

built my captured bar a long time ago. I've also built many tools. Wrote an article for American Woodturner on making tools from files. I did that because people needed to learn to temper them if they made them so that they wouldn't be brittle. I made a set of ornament hollowing tools just the other day for one of our club members.

I have helped hundreds make their own systems. I suggest you use me. Even though it is not my system, pretend you just got it from me and use my set up instructions (from my web site) to get the best performance from yours. Also use my methods to prevent vibrations so there would be no need for the steady rest. It can just be a matter of slight adjustments that can make your turning time a lot more fun. I suggest using a laser too. If I did not care about beating up my body with hand held tools, I would have a captured system just because of the laser. No need to work blind inside the hollow form.
