New commission

Just finished my latest commission...a Padauk yo-yo and matching display with rose engine and Variscite stone embellishments.

The subject is Bob Proctor's 56th year as a professional motivational speaker..."The only limits in our lives are those we impose on ourselves". I read his first book, You Were Born Rich, 33 years ago. Goggle "Bob Proctor" if you don't know who he is.

And the stand is incredible too! What is the green marble-like stuff?

Thanks John...that's man-made Veriscite Tru-stone (aka Recon Stone). It's difficult to find in sizes larger than a pen blank. The link below is where I get it currently. They will cut it into thin sheets for you, so there's not much waist. I usually buy 1/8" thick slabs. If you decide to buy some, ask for the soft (HSS tool turn-able) type. The hard version of Tru-Stone in really hard, and only turn-able with carbide cutters.

Oh boy, I feel an order coming on! Thanks. Between that, aluminum and brass, and the big stock of colored acrylics I have zero excuses for not trying some new combinations of things. :)

Yeah, I've been trying out a lot of exotic laminations and embellishments lately. These are my favorites so far:

eBay...Ukrainian Hazelwood encased in colored resin

Tru-Stone Sonoran Sunset

Tru-Stone Azurite Malachite

Tru-Stone Black/White Web

Ok, that settles it. You are certifiably and incredibly insane, worthy of the title Grand Wizard of Woodturning Creativity.

Tomorrow I will pack up all my exotic woods and materials and tools and ship them to you. I will forget this infatuation with woodturning and become a bum on the beach and spend my days walking in the surf. I will keep only the yo-yo from Y.Y.S. and the spare string.

Ed -- That is fantastic and inspiring work. I wish you were still making your how-to videos. I've learned a lot from you over the years.
