Anyone traveling to see it. I am fortunate in the exact center goes right over my house. Well actually it's 1/2 mile away from dead center. My son is coming in from Arkansas to see it. We aren't having a party of anything. To many other things going on in our life but a few people are coming over. Hey it's the end of the world so might as well enjoy it.

We have been watching traffic reports around the country. It's nuts. Bumper to Bumper going into Columbia SC. I hope my son gets through Nashville OK> So far he hasn't hit a lot of traffic coming across I40 but I'm guessing it will pick up when he gets closer to Nashville. They are having a lot of events around there. The University where I worked is expecting as many as 10,000. They are 23 miles from me.

Hey John it is pretty crazy here in Madras, Oregon too. It will be right over my house also. Our little town has never seen this many people!

I got my telescope out today and checked it out with the solar filter. Hey, there are sunspots now, five in a line near the center of the sun! I held my phone camera up to the eyepiece and took a (poor) sunspot photo.

I also did a projection through a 4" scope and got a nice 2" to 5" diameter sun image onto a piece of paper (depending on the projection distance). I think I'm ready. The only thing left is the driving. I'm thinking of taking the back roads.

Another thing I tried was holding the 10x image stabilized binoculars behind the 8" solar filter. The image wasn't too big but I could still see the sunspots clearly.

I am in the 90% zone, but won't travel any where for it. We had a total one here in 1979. My old home town in St. Joe, MO is dead center on the path.

1979 it was about the same, but so overcast (it was Feb) that you couldn't see a thing, supposed to be better tomorrow

A friend is in Prineville OR, he said traffic was so bad today they stopped running the bus.

I'm such a serious buff I used to help TA the astronomy lab in college... But honestly I'd rather miss the event the put up with the crazy some areas are getting.

Last week I drove to Illinois and back. All the electric signs along I-70 warn of heavy traffic and expected delays due to the eclipse. Haven't seen what it's like since Thursday. Also heard that motel rooms in Wyoming are going for $1,000 per night.

I know that a lot of members of the turning club are driving to points in Oregon but I'm staying in Spokane. I think we're supposed to have 93% coverage here.
