Hi all. My name is Keira. My dad, Ken George, used to be a part of this site (not sure who active he was though). I found this page bookmarked on his computer. Unfortunately, he passed away last year. He LOVED wood turning. He spent all of his extra time down in his shop....And had the shop of his dreams. He had tons of tools, which now, we don't know what to do with. Some of them me and my husband have taken, but things like the lathe and all the tools and things that go with it we won't use

Could someone point me in the direction of where we could go to sell them?

Thanks so much. And to anyone who talked or interacted with my dad, thanks so much. I know how much he loved this community.

Keira,

You can research other used equipment that has been sold on EBay to get an idea

as to the selling price for the make and model of equipment you have.

Shipping is always an issue with large equipment so you might want to consider

CraigsList for listing the large items. There are several websites that list all of the

CraigsList postings with one search for the entire country. This website application

can also be used to see what equipment is selling for across the country.

Your best results will be listing the equipment with make and model information and

several good quality photos so the buyer can get a good idea of the condition of the equipment.

The make and model can be the difference of a $100 lathe or $10,000 lathe.

You didn't mention where you are located but there might be a local turning club with members willing to help price the lathe and tools. Google could help find a club or you could reply here with your location and someone here will help identify the nearest club.

Go to the American Association of Woodturners site -- they have a page where you can search for local chapters.

You might also try calling them -- they might be able to provide further help.

Keira, if this is the Ken George I remember, he lived in Woburn, MA, not far from the old location of the Woodcraft store. He and I joined the turning club that started at that location (Association of Revolutionary Turners, or A.R.T.) shortly after that club started.

ART still exists, and meets in the Woodcraft store on the third Thursday of the month. The Woodcraft moved from that location to a larger space a few miles away. I'm sure that ART would be very helpful to you in getting your Dad's tools in the hands of people who would use and appreciate them. Please feel free to send me an email, and I will get you in touch with some of the officers of the club.

A friend out East ran into the same problem. The lathe and big things are easier to sell. It's all the accessories that have good value but appreciative buyers are few & far between.

Their solution was to have an auction at a local wood turning club before or after the regular meeting. Advertise it well within the club newsletter. Anyone into turning in the area will be there and appreciate some of the tools & fixtures that many other folks won't. They donated some of the proceeds to the club for their troubles. Win-win for all.
